An exploration of performance art, it’s origins and the keys figures ‘in action’ reminding us that all the World is, indeed, a stage!

Please choose the relevant ticket type when booking.Shakespeare’s famous monologue in ‘As You Like It’ suggests that ‘all the world’s a stage’ drawing our attention to life being a performance. In our lifetime we play many roles: The way we dress, talk and walk are just some of the routine actions which reflect who we are and who we want to be. When Performance Art came to the visual art stage, it immediately shifted the attention away from the ‘art object’ and directly onto the Artist’s body and actions. Performance Art can happen at anytime, anywhere and by anyone in real time and space. It can be spontaneous, scripted, ‘live’ or recorded and demands us, the spectator, to become involved as participant or witness. Please join, Linda Casey, an independent art historian, to explore Performance Art, it’s origins and the keys figures ‘in action’ reminding us that all the World is, indeed, a stage!
