Royal Literary Fund Healthcare Science Week Workshop: Focus On Your Writing

The Nosocomial Project is an award-winning collaboration set up by writer/ director Nicola Baldwin and Professor Elaine Cloutman-Green, Lead Healthcare Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital.Our work includes plays and readings, site-specific performance, and short films, for children and adults. We also host workshops, panels and collaborative events for artists and scientists, and partner events to promote cross-disciplinary conversation.The Nosocomial Project seeks to build relationships between artists, scientists, researchers, patients, families and the public through theatre, shared experience, and conversation; believing that better communication and understanding are vital for managing future threats to global health and communities.We won the 2019 CSO Partnering Patients and Citizens Award, and 2020 Antibiotic Guardian award for Public Engagement. In 2021 we partnered with Precision AMR research initiative at UCL , UCLH, GOSH and ICH to coordinate PPI and produced twoRise Of The Resistancefestivals (online and in person)  in July and September 2021, performances and events for Wellcome Collection, Bloomsbury Festival and site-specific take-over projects.

For Healthcare Science Trainees and students to improve your confidence in writing reports, personal statements, and public engagement.

Do you use writing for study or work-related training in Healthcare Science? Is a lack of confidence in writing holding you back? Would you like to write more authentically or more professionally? This workshop will explore simple and creative ways to make your written work more effective and enjoyable; new approaches to planning, structure, style and expressing yourself through writing. Suitable for essays, reports, patient history, articles, blogs, public engagement.

The 2.5-hour session will use practical approaches to basic writing challenges which you can apply to anything from a report to a press release.

Nicola Baldwin is a playwright and scriptwriter. Previously Creative Fellow at UCL Urban Lab, she is a Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow, Visiting Fellow at IAS and PPI Coordinator for the Precision AMR Research Initiative at UCL / ICH and GOSH. In collaboration with Dr Elaine Cloutman-Green, Lead Healthcare Scientist at GOSH, Nicola set up the award-winning Nosocomial Project which tells ‘hospital acquired’ stories of Healthcare Scientists and patients through drama and events. 

Supported by the Royal Literary Fund to promote effective Healthcare Science writing. Originating from a trial funded by NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This Healthcare Science Week workshop is FREE and suitable for trainees and students at all levels of written English.
