Part of Cyrenians, the Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is a national resource promoting and supporting best practice in family conflict resolution, mediation and early intervention. Family relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of youth homelessness. Therefore, the focus of the centre is on young people and their families experiencing conflict which is affecting both their relationships and their lives.The SCCR is delivering a range of free events and resources, including a series of local seminars, national conferences across Scotland, free training sessions, and online resources for practitioners, young people and families. We acknowledge the support of the Scottish Government through a CYPFEIF  and ALEC Fund Grant. Cyrenians is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered charity SC011052.

<h3>Relationships are as fragile as glass; a misunderstood word or facial expression can cause a crack, which could grow and eventually shatter. If only we could see inside each other’s heads to better understand what we do and why we do it.</h3>Relationship breakdown is still the biggest cause of young people becoming homeless in Scotland although it can happen to any age group. The impact of conflict on our well being and the human cost of conflict on wider society is considerable. If only we could see inside each other’s heads to better understand what we do and why we do it. The Social Sciences attempt to explain human nature and behaviour via theories and ideas such as Mentalisation, Perspectives and Perception, Attribution Theory, and more. These theories help to explain human interactions and emotions in relation to conflict and relationships. We need to understand these theories in order to be able to relate them to our own lives. The SCCR has joined forces with Dr Sara Watkin, Medical Advisor, and Hannah Foley, SCCR Illustrator, Award Winning Author and Health Professional, to offer some alternative perspectives to understanding family relationships. Through an informative and engaging event, we will explore the dynamics of conflict, providing an engaging and thought-provoking insight into understanding our emotions, human needs and the impact on our family relationships. Through making some adjustments to how we relate to each other, we can improve our relationships and therefore improve our lives. Drawing on theories from psychology and biology, we will consider the dynamics that make conflict tricky and reflect on what it means to be human.This event is open to anyone aged 16+ or younger if attending with a supporting adult.We hope to see you online soon! Facilitator BiographiesDr Sara Watkin, a Doctor of Medicine and London Contemporary Dance graduate, has held a fascination with the body-mind link to help families articulate what one’s own body or someone else’s might be telling us about their state of mind. She became the Medical Adviser for Scottish Adoption and has studied with David Butler and Lorimer Moseley (“Explain Pain”). She continues to be inspired by the use of narrative, metaphor, and imagery to help people process trauma, understand their pain, and develop healthy relationships and resilience. Sara completed two years training in Mentalisation Based Therapy in 2021 and she now works as a therapist in a parent-infant psychotherapy team, working with parents and their infants to help the family thrive. She values empowering interventions that are both compassionate and enabling.Hannah Foley is an alumna of Edinburgh College of Art. She worked as an illustrator and designer in Scotland, before returning to Devon where she now lives and works as a Specialist Nurse for people with Multiple Sclerosis, writing and drawing in her spare time. In 2018, she won the Kelpies Prize for her first children’s novel, The Spellbinding Secret of Avery Buckle, and illustrated two picture books for Vivian French. Her second children’s novel, on the topic of mental health, will be published by Zephyr in 2023. She has worked with SCCR since its inception.ZoomOnce you&#x27;ve registered you will be sent the details on how to join nearer the time to the event. his session is at an introductory level and no prior knowledge of the subject is required.Please note Zoom offers video capability so you can join with your webcam on, but this is entirely up to you and this option can be turned off.
