South Georgia Then and Now (1982-2022)

TheSouth Georgia Associationwas formed to give voice to those who care for South Georgia, a remote mountainous island of exceptional natural beauty in the Southern Atlantic, with abundant wildlife both on the island and in the surrounding ocean. Uninhabited apart from two small research stations, a summer Museum, and a few government employees, it is an unspoilt wilderness with a fascinating heritage that is nonetheless environmentally vulnerable.Our Objectives:To encourage interest in, and concern for, the island of South GeorgiaTo encourage the study of South Georgia, and promote the conservation of its natural and cultural heritage.To promote contacts and encourage fellowship among those who have lived and worked in or around South Georgia, have visited or are interested in the Island.

<p>Recollections of life at King Edward Point by people who were there at the time of the invasion in 1982, when the military garrison was replaced by the applied fisheries research laboratory in 2001, and during the latest summer season 2021 to 2022. Bob Headland, Pat Lurcock and Jamie Coleman will present their memories of past and recollections of recent events illustrated by contemporary photographs.</p>
