Glass-House Chats: Guerilla urbanism – an approach to consider?

The Glass-House Community Led Design is a national charity dedicated to connecting people with the design of their places, and connecting design with people. For over two decades, we have supported communities, organisations and networks to work collaboratively to shape buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods.The Glass-House sees design not only as a tool for creating great places, but also as a way to connect people and empower them with enhanced confidence, skills and a greater sense of agency. We provide hands-on support and training, share knowledge and learning, and inspire new thinking and debate through action research, events and resources.

The Glass-House Community Led Design

Glass-House Chats are one-hour themed sessions for an informal chat about engaging communities in design and placemaking.

What happens when the general public takes urbanism and placemaking into their own hands? We have seen the rise of guerilla gardening, where people take over and garden on underused bits of green space in urban spaces without seeking the consent of landowners. What if people started transforming the other under-used or unloved spaces with temporary or permanent installations or interventions? How would we feel about a new kind of “guerilla urbanism”? This Chat will explore ideas around guerilla urbanism, unpicking its relationship with individual and collective power in placemaking, and the place of guerilla urbanism as a potential tool in our placemaking belts.
Please be aware that there are limited spaces for each event, with a maximum of 10 attendee spaces. We would be gratefulif you could let us know with 48 hours notice if you&#x27;re no longer able to attend the event so that those on the waiting list can be offered a place.
