The Art Workers’ Guild is a body of more than 400 artists, craftspeople and architects working at the highest levels of excellence in their professions. Founded in 1884 by young architects and designers, its principle of ‘learning by doing’ has spread through arts education and has had a worldwide influence. A respect for quality, for craftsmanship, for the work of the hand, and a recognition of the healing, humane value of craftsmanship still characterises the Guild.

Fashion brand Teatum Jones and Anne Thorne Architects will be 'in conversation' with one another about their use of sustainable and socially conscious design methods used in their respective design processes and how a growing awareness of Zero Waste and Sustainable Materials has informed their work. Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones of TeatumJones are united by a shared fascination of humans and their stories. They believe in the power of fashion to present a pro-social message of inclusivity and positive identity. They create sustainable and socially conscious fashion that puts the craftspeople and the customer at the heart of their creations. Passionate about Zero Waste, they use this model to create exquisite textiles layered with emotional narrative. They weave these stories into the fabric and textiles of their collections to create bold, vibrant and modern fashion in their London studio. Anne Thorne’s award winning practice started in 1991, working on private/social housing, schools and community centres. She works to Passivhaus standards which involves low energy demand, so heating can cost as little as a cup of coffee a week. She uses non-toxic materials, wherever possible, with buildings ranging from straw bale to brickwork. She works with communities and individuals to design homes people want and love. Monitoring her schemes means she knows how to improve on the last one. Anne’s practice is part of 15-40 a collective evolving key strategies for energy efficient architecture formed of six practices of the UK’s leading Passivhaus designers.
