There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience, so this is a great opportunity to learn more about the upcoming Policy Challenges ahead of applications opening! Refreshments will also be provided. The councillors and officers from the CCC who will be speaking at the launch event are:

Patrick Kilkelly (Policy Advisor - Policy, Design and Delivery) – giving the welcome and introduction

Stephen Moir, Cambridgeshire County Council Chief Executive

Raj Lakshman, Consultant in Public Medicine

Joseph Davies, Suicide Prevention Manager

Graeme Hodgson, Commissioning Manager – Adult Social Care

Sheryl French, Programme Director – Climate Change

Chloe Rickard, Head of Commercial and Operations

This year’s Policy Challenges questions are:

“How can we integrate children and maternity services across local authority and the NHS to result in better outcomes for mothers, children and young people?” – Raj Lakshman, Consultant in Public Medicine

“What factors impact the mental health of young people aged 18-25? In May, successful applicants will then be sorted into small teams of researchers that will each tackle one of the policy questions. The researchers are supported by the senior council officers on the council’s Transformation Team, who guide the researchers and give feedback throughout the project. The research into the topics will be performed over approximately 6 months and will culminate in a report that will be presented to a committee of elected county councillors, including recommendations for how the CCC can take the conclusions of the research forward. The Policy Challenges are a great way for early-career researchers from any field to use their analytical skills to research a pressing policy-relevant topic, as well as develop their transferable skills while gaining experience of working with policy makers at a local government level! See the CCC website for more details on the Policy Challenges, including past Policy Challenge reports. For questions about the launch event or the Policy Challenges in general, please contact the CUSPE 2022 Policy Challenges Coordinator, Andrew Smith (aas77@cam.ac.uk).
