We welcome you to the second of our NCITA educational lecture series 'On the Shoulders of Giants', with guest speaker Dr Heather Williams.

‘On the Shoulders of Giants’ is a series of educational talks where experts will bring their perspectives to encourage and challenge wider thinking within the cancer imaging research community.Dr Heather Williams MBE is a Consultant Medical Physicist and Group Leader for Nuclear Medicine at The Christie in Manchester. She is also Director of ScienceGrrl, a grass-roots volunteer collective which is building and strengthening a network of people passionate about passing on their love of STEM to the next generation. Recently she was awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Years’ Honours, for services to diversity and inclusion in science.Whilst experiencing levels of bias throughout her career, Dr Williams will reflect on how she has also had the opportunity to pursue her passions in research and STEM – opportunities that others may never have had the chance to experience. In this talk, Dr Williams will discuss how these barriers can arise, and will highlight the importance of acknowledging the disadvantages, biases and inequalities that exist in the world of science. She will challenge us to think how we can work together to break down these barriers to ensure everyone can pursue their passion and talent for science.Who can attend?

Whilst the lectures are designed with an ‘imaging lens’, anyone from the cancer research community is welcome to attend the lecture series.
