Non-conscious bias: Eliminate or Illuminate?

OUR Mission is to...Facilitate personal learning and (re)generative relationships to enhance the wellbeing of people of all ages, everywhere we (PIAC members) are.We do this by resourcing PIA members to co-create PIA projects in the places we live and work, extending learning opportunities to people who often have least access.Our Activities...Source and resource members within PIA Collective through training, mentoring, supervision, Community-in-Practice gatherings and advanced learning apprenticeships.Deliver learning opportunities in workplaces in all sectors and communities.A new business exchange...We aim to do business on the basis of a'Sufficiency principle'with participating contributors. Those who join in, will be badged as -'Enough equals Enough Contributors' (E=E:Cos).Sponsor organisations will determine if they wish to contract with PIA Collective based on a pro-rata sector-specific rate or a  "E=E;Cos fee" where they pay more to pay forward, thereby gifting PIAC support to 3rd sector beneficiaries.Individual PIAC members will determine the E=E fee they will to take for the work they do under the banner of PIAC.

Over the last few years more and more organisations have started to embrace the notion of ‘eliminating bias’. What does this actually mean?

In an effort to address the issue of bias, many have run workshops, changed recruitment processes, diversified board members and revisited their policies and core values to be more inclusive. Have these worked? What else could we be doing? Rather than focusing outside of ourselves, is it time to be more aware of what goes on within us around bias? We open this opportunity to explore the distinction between non-conscious bias and unconscious bias. What is the difference and why does it matter? Where does bias come from? How does it play out in our everyday lives? What are the benefits and consequences of holding on to or relinquishing our biases? More importantly, how can we become more conscious of our own biases, illuminating and understanding them as opportunities for self and organisational wide learning?Join us for a different perspective on non-conscious bias.Please register below for this session. We call those who subscribe to this principle ‘E=ECos’ i.e. ‘Enough equals Enough Contributors&#x27;. Our facilitators do not take fees for these events and instead choose to re-invest 100% of our ticket sales to resourcing the learning of our community-in-practice, supporting each of us to pass on Presence in Action everywhere we are in our communities, organisations and families. We also use this funding to provide bursaries and supported places for our learning events and 1:1 support for those unable to pay for themselves.
