Sports Presenter and History Broadcaster Marieta Evans will be interviewing former Newham Recorder Editor and historian Colin Grainger in a special live event online as part of the Newham Heritage Month 2022 celebrations/event. As the saying goes, News are the first rough draft of History – that’s why the man who wrote and edited all major events when they were news is best placed to share the tale now that they are part of our History. Colin has lived first hand and covered all major events and breaking news stories in Newham, as well as discovering hidden gems, collecting and writing about forgotten stories and people’s stories. With Colin we will have a look at some of the biggest stories and also unheard curiosities he discovered through his work as roving reporter and editor, with a focus on London 2012. Meet our Interviewer and Host: Marieta Evans is Marieta is a freelance journalist, content-producer &amp; broadcaster, passionate about history with strong connections to Newham where she has lived, worked and volunteered. As a news and sports reporter and presenter, Marieta has worked for a wide variety of media outlets globally and locally, from reporting for CNN+ in Spain to presenting and reporting for Eurosport, writing features for the Newham Recorder and volunteering with East London Radio. Marieta has been involved in a wide variety of heritage projects in Newham including the Royal Docks History Club, Newham Heritage Month, Discovering Stratford Village, the Ferry Festival, as well as producing and presenting digital content for Thames Festival, The Royal Docks History Podcast Series and London Borough of Newham. Meet our interviewee: Colin Grainger: Father-of-two Colin Grainger is former Editor of the Newham Recorder and five other local newspapers and was also a sub editor on The Guardian. He has been a journalist for 50 years and is currently working as a freelance journalist and editor. He is also a historian with a variety of interests. He was co-founder of the Heritage Newham – People, Places, Progress group. Colin has created an online archive of almost 6,000 pictures, stories and articles on local history and heritage over the last five years and contributes to the 25 plus social media groups in Newham that help preserve our history and heritage.He has contributed to all the Newham Heritage Months, weeks and festivals.He has written the Forgotten Stories series on the londonsroyaldocks.com/ and royaldocks.london/ websites.
