<h3>‘Contextual Safeguarding and trauma related youth work practice – beyond terminology, what does this look like in practice for young people and practitioners?’</h3><h3>Zara McDonald and Mike Collyer (The Children’s Society &amp; Walsall Exploitation Reduction Team)</h3>

Workshop overview:
Drawing on practice-based experiences, this workshop will explore how, by utilising contextual safeguarding in the context of extra-familiar harm, young people have been supported. An understanding of the material impact of trauma on young people and the importance of language use by practitioners when dealing with such issues. Finally, some engagement in exploring practitioner self-care when working within contextual safeguarding contexts will be addressed.

Workshop facilitator biographies:
Zara is a JNC qualified youth worker and graduated from Newman University in 2015 with a BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work. Zara has been working within the voluntary sector for 10 years with and managing teams who work with children, young people and families across the West Midlands, Manchester and London. This work has included: Missing, Early help, Restorative justice, Child Exploitation, and using creative outlets such as Music and activities. Zara currently manages a service in London for a leading charity.

Mike Collyer is a JNC qualified youth worker and is part of a multi-agency exploitation reduction team in Walsall. Mike has worked in Walsall for over 17 years managing youth centres and detached projects around the borough.
