</h3><h3>Mike is concerned in particular with how youth work is understood as a tool of analysis for social change - be this philosophical or practical; and how youth work strategically engages with young people. He successfully completed his PhD in 2020, titled: ‘Young people, situated learning, and peace praxis at the margins of everyday life&#x27;. This work focused on how young people understand issues of peace, conflict and violence in their everyday life, and what young people do with what they know.

</h3><h3></h3><h3>Mike is an experienced and qualified youth &amp; community worker, and social worker, who joined De Montfort University Youth &amp; Community Division full-time in 2020. Upon joining the division, he took on the role of MA course leader for community development and youth work. Additionally, Mike has taught on numerous BA programmes with the Youth Work &amp; Community Development Division, and Education Studies, since 2009.

</h3><h3></h3><h3>Mike continues to deliver youth work and peace education with significantly vulnerable communities such as young people who are marginalised or at risk of serious violence.

<p><strong>This workshop is part of the Practitioners time to Connect Series</strong></p><p><strong>Would you like the opportunity, time, and space to engage in critical discussion and learning about current issues and debates that might shape and impact your practice with young people and communities?</strong></p><p>Come along to one of our sessions</p><p><strong>What is this? </strong></p><p>‘<strong>Practitioners time to Connect</strong>’ is a series of free in-person events facilitated by Newman University Youth &amp; Community Work staff and delivered in collaboration with academics and practitioners.</p><p><strong>Who is it for?</strong></p><p>Qualified, non-qualified, full-time, part-time or volunteers with an interest and experience in youth work practice</p><p><strong>Why should I attend?</strong></p><p>If participating in discursive, critically reflective learning spaces where you can build on your existing practice skills and approaches interests you, then you should attend.</p><p><strong>Where are these workshops being held?</strong></p><p>Each session will be held at Newman University, Genners Lane, Bartley Green, Birmingham.
