Her background is in woven textiles with her previous work being sponsored by the Guardian; her work has been exhibited nationally, London and Dublin and internationally as far away as Australia. She is Head of the Art and Design Department at Loreto College, Coleraine where she has worked for the past 19 years.  Michelle is a member of the steering group of North Coast World Earth and is passionate about education for sustainability and caring for our wonderful location and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. </p><p>Michelle&#x27;s piece for the Northword project was inspired by Kate Murphy’s story <a href="https://northwordni.org/your-stories/how-the-salmon-became-king-of-the-fish/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><em>How the Salmon became King of the Fish</em> </a>and created a children’s storybook with accompanying story bag, textiles and puppets.  She even managed to undertake some sand art at Downhill Beach showcasing the different elements of the story.</p><p>Join Michelle McGarvey in an outdoor session (weather permitting) in painting, drawing and stencilling to create the story of the big fish – the salmon.  Kate Murphy will be on-hand to read <em>How the Salmon became King of the Fish</em> to inspire the creative session.
