Жизнь и судьба Бориса Немцова - это история России последних 25 лет. Эта история начинается в 90-х, когда на Немцова смотрели как на будущего президента страны, и заканчивается в феврале 2015 года, когда он был убит на Москворецком мосту напротив московского Кремля как представитель уличной оппозиции.
Режиссер Вера Кричевская и журналист Михаил Фишман экранизировали полную политическую биографию Бориса Немцова. В этом фильме несколько десятков участников, которые иначе никогда бы не оказались на одной площадке. О важнейших, часто поворотных событиях российской истории и роли в них Бориса Ефимовича рассказывают его друзья, коллеги, родственники и политики: Татьяна и Валентин Юмашевы, Михаил Фридман, Михаил Прохоров, Олег Сысуев, Григорий Явлинский, Виктор Ющенко, Сергей Ястржембский, Михаил Касьянов, Альфред Кох, Ирина Хакамада, Раиса и Жанна Немцовы, Евгений Киселев, Нина Зверева, Евгения Альбац, Дмитрий Муратов и другие.
Фильм построен не только на интервью, но и на уникальных документальных съемках с участием Бориса Немцова, голос которого постоянно звучит в кадре наряду с другими рассказчиками.

The story of life of Boris Nemtsov reads like the history of Russia of the past 25 years. This history starts in the 1990s when Nemtsov was seen as the future president of the country and ends in February of 2015, when he was assassinated on Moskvoretsky Bridge, near the Moscow Kremlin, for being part of the political opposition and street protests. 
Director Vera Krichevskaya and journalist Mikhail Fishman brought the complete political biography of Boris Nemtsov to the screen. There are a few dozens of participants in this film who would have never found themselves in the same platform otherwise. The people who talk about the crucial, often game-changing events of Russian history and the role Boris Nemtsov played in them are his friends, colleagues, relatives, and fellow politicians: Tatyana and Valentin Yumashev, Mikhail Fridman, Mikhail Prokhorov, Oleg Sysuev, Grigory Yavlinsky, Viktor Yushchenko, Sergey Yastrzhembsky, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Mikhail Kasyanov, Alfred Koch, Alexei Navalny, Ilya Yashin, Irina Khakamada, Vladimir Ryzhkov, Raisa and Zhanna Nemtsova, Yevgeny Kiselyov, Nina Zvereva, Yevgenia Albats, Dmitry Muratov, and others.
The film is built not only on interviews, but also on unique documentary footage of Boris Nemtsov, and his voice is constantly heard on screen alongside other narrators.

Nemtsov was a hero and the hope of a young country; he participated in all the most important events of its history. We tried to tell the story of Boris through the history of the last 25 years of Russia’s life, and to tell the history of Russia through the last 25 years of Boris Nemtsov’s life”, - Vera Krichevskaya, independent producer, television director, and one of the founders of the TV Rain and 24DOC channels.

And it is our fault that we, many of us, realized this only after his death. Nemtsov’s life shows that it is possible to move mountains in politics while still being an honest, sincere, open, and buoyant man of principle. His biography became the history of Russian democracy, and the history of our country. The Man Who Was Too Free won the Russian Guild of Film Critics White Elephant award for Best Documentary of 2016.
