Our 3-day Young Writers’ Summer Sessions take place across the North East, for young people to work on exciting creative writing projects.

The Word, National Centre for the Written Word

Wednesday 31 August – Friday 2 September, 10am-3pm each dayVenue: The Word, South ShieldsOpen to: ages 12-19Hoping to see out the summer bursting with ideas and creative energy? Then join New Writing North Young Writers for this year’s summer programme at The Word as part of the Write Festival 2022. During the programme you will work with professional filmmakers to explore writing and devising for film, finishing up with a group screening at the end of the three days. Whether you’re already a keen writer or just looking to try something new, we’d love to see you there!During term-time we run a weekly Young Writers Group at The Word, every Saturday from 11am-1pm. Our summer programme is a great way to meet other young writers and find out more about our regular young writers’ programmes.

Tickets are free, but if you’re able to, please consider making a donation. Your money will support our free creative writing programmes for 12-25 year olds, which run throughout the year, including in many areas where there are fewer opportunities.The aim of all our work is to help young people to realise their potential. We develop skills, nurture talent and encourage young people to get involved and have a go at creative writing. We create environments where young writers can make friends, develop their confidence, try out new things and have fun!Our suggested donation is £25, but anything you can give will enable us to help young people to make brilliant work. Thank you!
