Join us on a coach trip to Blackwell, Lakeland Arts to visit James Fox's exhibition 'Something in Common' alongside an artist talk

9.30am Coach collects and departs More Music heading to Blackwell to visit James Fox&#x27;s exhibition. Please arrive at least 10-15 mins prior.11am artist talk and tour of exhibition with the artist. They&#x27;ll be a chance for some free time to explore the site and soak up the lake district views and other art at the centre. Please bring a packed lunch or money for food in the cafe.3pm depart Blackwell and return to Morecambe and drop off at More Music.This trip has been funded, arranged made possible by Creative West End with special thanks to our Inspiration and Learning network coordinator Steve Fairclough.*The exhibition features new work by Lancaster based textile artist, James Fox, Something in Common tells the story of England’s countryside and the peoples’ fight for Common Land. Displayed in conversation with major landscape paintings from the Lakeland Arts Collection, Fox’s stitched banners and embroideries highlight the importance of access to nature – a principal championed by the Arts &amp; Crafts Movement’s founder, John Ruskin (1819-1900). There exists a deep and sacred relationship between people and the land. For thousands of years, the English countryside has been a vital source of life, shelter and inspiration for those who have lived and worked within it. Access to the landscape and protection of the land has been heavily fought for throughout the nation’s history, from the establishment of medieval ‘Common Lands’ in the Magna Carta, through to the mass trespasses of the 19th century that would become catalysts for National Parks. *James Fox James Fox is a textile artist from Glasgow, now living in Lancaster. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Lancaster exploring craft as a form of protest.His recent work delves into the history of land rights and land ownership, posing the question – Who Owns England?His work has featured in solo and group exhibitions internationally including the British Textile Biennial, Knitting &amp; Stitch Show, Contextile Portugal, Storey Institute, Buck County Museum and Riga International. *Year of Protest The commission forms part of Blackwell’s 2022 ‘Year of Protest’, featuring exhibitions by three artists who use their craft to create positive social change. The year features a series of three commissions, including Maddy Humberstone’s Lost in Cumbria, James Fox’s Something in Common and a display of work by internationally renowned Cumbria ceramicist, Paul Scott. From the Lakeland Arts collectionMajor landscape paintings from the Lakeland Arts collection are displayed alongside Fox’s work. The selection includes amongst others, Sheila Fell, Ben Nicholson and L S Lowry.
