The event  is expected to conclude at 7pm.</p><p>The event is open to all. </p><p>If you would like to attend in person, please ensure you bring photographic ID in the same name as the ticket booking and select an &quot;in person attendance&quot; ticket.  </p><p>If you would like to join via Teams, please select that ticket type and we will send you a link 24 hours before the event, and another reminder 5 minutes before the event.</p><p><strong>Presentations:</strong></p><h3>Predicting Dangerous Drivers</h3><p><em>Dr Geoff Barnes (University of Cambridge &amp; Metropolitan Police Service)</em></p><p>Every year, the Western Australia Police issue nearly 800,000 traffic infringements to drivers.  Most of these infringements are dealt with in very routine ways, often through the post, with the identified drivers ultimately paying their fines and receiving a few “points” on their license.  But a tiny fraction of these drivers present a much higher level of risk.  Roughly one-half of one percent of them will soon go on – in the rather immediate future – to be involved in a killed-or-serious-injury road crash.  For this tiny fraction of infringed drivers, their offence presents a key opportunity to do something that might avert these future tragedies.  The challenging part to prospectively identify these dangerous drivers, especially when they are so incredibly rare and hidden within this vast population of traffic infringements.</p><p>This session focuses on the use of a form of machine learning, and whether it can successfully forecast very serious future outcomes, especially when these crashes occur in just one of out of every 200 observations across a very large and complex data set.  The discussion will focus especially on how the allowance for specific forms of error can shape the accuracy of these models, and what these allowances say about the differential costs of false positives and false negatives when defining a specific application of predictive analytics.  It will also investigate the role of controversial predictors, such as ethnicity, play in these kinds of predictive models.</p><h3>Psychological Safety in Policing</h3><p><em>Sam Upton (Metropolitan Police Service)</em></p><p>Psychological safety has been described as &quot;a condition in which you feel (1) included, (2) safe to learn, (3) safe to contribute, and (4) safe to challenge the status quo- all without fear of being embarrassed, marginalized or punished in some way” (Clarke 2021). Psychological safety has been shown to play an important role in the workplace in terms of its positive contribution to amongst other things learning, innovation, wellbeing and performance.</p><p>In their talk, Will and Sam will discuss their own research into psychological safety in policing, undertaken as part of a practitioner fellowship sponsored by the Met and UCL. They will highlight research findings arrived at using quantitative data analysis of the Met Staff Surveys along with a series of semi-structured focus groups with officers in one Basic Command Unit. They will discuss some of their key findings, a number of implications of the research, as well as touch on next steps they are working on in light of existing initiatives in the Met today.</p><p></p><h3></h3><h3></h3>
