WHAT IS THE LEAP CONFERENCE?

The two-day Leap Conference, which is one of the key events in the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations in Uganda, draws together over 400 youth, graduates and enterprising students from Uganda’s top Universities for a 2-day intensive programme of practical support for identifying and developing business ideas. As the name suggets, the Leap Conference is designed to challenge and inspire the youth to literally take the “Leap” into the world of business and entrepreneurship. From idea generation, branding, marketing, finances, etc, the Leap Conference is a hands-on and impactful camp that equips young people with the tools essential for developing business ideas and running a successful enterprise. As well as a unique opportunity to network with a diverse range of young people from a variety of backgrounds, the Leap Conference, which happens once a year, features practical games and business simulations, seasoned entrepreneurs, mentors and speaker - prepare to be inpsired. Can I apply even though I am not a student? Absolutely. While the majority will be students, we are definitely open to having some (very strong) non-student participants.

What about food & sleep? NASE usually caters for all meals, drinks, and in-between snacks. Sleep is really optional... :)

Do we care about time keeping? What do you think? This issue is particularly problematic for us Ugandans, and we want to change it – permanently. Whether we assign a dollar value to it or not, time is a special and valuable resource that you cannot store or save for later use. Everyone has the exact same amount of time each day. Being on time shows everyone around you that you are the master of your life. It demonstrates foresight — the ability to predict possible hang-ups — and adaptability — the ability to change your plans to accommodate those hang-ups. Time keeping is an essential trait for any budding entrepreneur.

On the other hand, being late shows that you are a victim of the winds of fate, that you’re incapable of anticipating possible problems and either dealing with them or altering your course to avoid them. It sends the message that you’re harassed by time, not in control of it. These are not the kinds of folks we expect to attend the Leap Conference. Everyone is busy — too busy to be waiting on you before we start the conference. Help us demonstrate that Leap Conference folks are of a particular and unique mind-set.

Association of Student Enterprises (NASE).

The Association of Student Enterprises (NASE) is a social enterprise set up in 2015 to inspire and champion skills and youth entrepreneurship in Ugandan Universities. To date, and working with UK and Ugandan partners, NASE, mainly through the annual Leap Conference, has inspired over 4,000 enterprising students and graduates from Uganda’s top Universities to take control of their future by “Leaping” into the world of enterprise and entrepreneurship. As well as being powerfully inspirational, the Leap Conference has continued to act a funnel for the identification of viable business ideas. Indeed, a number of our delegates have since joined numerous Business Incubation Centres in Uganda, while some have gone on to win a number of awards.
