4 WEEKS: Beginner's Knitting
Absolute beginners are welcome at this 4-week Knitting class with Carol.
ABOUT THE CLASS
Join Carol Janes for a 4-week knitting course at Lairg Learning Centre, starting from Thurs, 19th February from 11.30am-1.30pm.
Whether you’ve never held a needle before or you’re looking to level up from the basic stitches, Carol’s class is designed to be low-pressure and high-reward. You won’t just be practising rows; you’ll be working toward a lacy cowl, which is a perfect way to build your skills.
Lacy Spring Cowl
Suitable for beginners or those who wish to learn more knitting skills:
· Using a circular needle and working in rounds
· Long tail cast on
· Using knit and purl stitches to create garter stitch and stocking stitch
· Reading a pattern and counting rows
· Indian Cross Stitch to create a lacy insert
· Using a safety thread for lacy patterns
· Casting off
If you complete your cowl before the end of the 4 sessions, we will go on to use the Cross Stitch idea to tackle matching hand warmers with a cable design.
Knitting needles will be available to use, but please bring your own needles if you wish - ideally size between 4.5mm - 6mm. You can usually find very inexpensive knitting needles in charity shops.
This workshop is partially funded by The National Lottery Awards for All.
