Overview

Confident with the basics? Would you like to try new techniques? Join Heather for this 4-week Sewing programme for confident beginners.

ABOUT THE CLASS

Ready to take the next step? Join Heather for a four-week block tailored for the "confident beginner." Perfect for improvers looking to refine their skills and build lasting confidence.

Fridays, 6th - 27th March

Each session will be from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lairg Learning Centre. To attend this class, we ask that you be confident with sewing and learning new techniques.

  • Week 1 (6th): Intro to bias binding and piping - make your own binding and learn how to attach piping - you will need to bring a zipper foot for this session. Make a cushion with piped edges and a zip.
  • Week 2 (13th): Find out more about shaping and alterations, such as taking up hems, gathering, appliqué, and pleating. Bring something in that you'd like to alter, or practice on scrap materials.
  • Week 3 & 4 (20th & 27th): Over the last two weeks of the course, we will have a go at making a top that incorporates some of the skills learnt during previous weeks (photo below - New Look pattern #6871, picture D). Fabric supplied, but feel free to bring your own if you wish. Follow pattern guidelines for material types.

MATERIALS

We have sewing supplies & machines you may use; however, should you wish to bring your own, you will need the following items:

  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Pins
  • Chalk or fabric marker
  • Standard ruler
  • Thread

Please use the order form to tell us if you need to borrow one of our sewing machines.

All materials are included in the cost of the class, but feel free to bring along your own fabric for the top if you prefer - we will be using light blue linen-viscose.
