Believe in Me CIC is a community interest company empowering women and young people through education and heritage projects. The projects are based on South Asian history and connecting them to present history.  My work is mainly focused on those from marginalised communities with little or no knowledge of history or heritage.

Leeds City Museum

Delighted that Believe in Me CIC have collaborated with Leeds City Museum for the 'Indian Women and War' project to tell the stories of how Indian women in saris came to contribute towards Second World War. This event is FREE, A fun family day out with lots of learning from 11:30am-3:30pm Bring your photos of saris and share your stories Did you know that during the Second World War there was a gunnery establishment in Karachi set up for Indian women? During the Second World War, nearly 2.5 million Indian soldiers volunteered to join the global war. This global war also needed the women of India to join forces and step into new roles outside of nursing. It was the first time women in India were allowed to sign up for non-combat roles, which would be much needed as many women were desperate to earn money. Many women were forced to work in coal mines and help lay the roads in the blazing heat. Hear how Noor Inayat Khan (a British spy of Muslim descent) came to be handpicked to help Britain as part of her role as an SOE agent. Funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, come and join us to be part of the Indian Women and War project. The event will host talks, workshops and a tour of the South Asian gallery. If you think you have what it takes to become a spy then join us at Leeds City Museum. 11:30am-1:30pm - Screening films of Indian women and war. Learn about Women's Auxiliary Corps India, Noor Inayat Khan and Women's Royal Indian Naval Service 2-3:30pm - Sari stories and community activities. There will be colouring activities and a chance to hear form special guests. There will also be a tour of the South Asian gallery .
