Rene S Perez celebrates the publication of his second novel Two Twins with a night of readings, wine and nibbles at the Barbican library. Brian Kelly plays support with readings from his debut novel Murph as well as manning the microphone for the Q&amp;A. A Dub questions a Texan... what could go wrong?About Rene:Rene S. Perez II was born in Kingsville, Texas and raised in Corpus Christi. He received a BA in English at the University of Texas and an MFA in creative writing from Texas State University. He is the winner of the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation prize for this collection. He teaches in creative writing in London.About Two Twins:Two Twins is the story of a successful young couple living in Austin, Texas, whose personal histories, national and ethnic identities, and aptitudes and ambitions have brought them to this booming city in this fast time, to the music and tech industries, and to one another. New and old successes and family ties and responsibilities put Rob and Maria to the test of what they want in life, in marriage, and force them to reckon with the adults and spouses their happy modern lives have made them.Witty and heartfelt, Two Twins is an exploration of looming millennial middle age, how our personal anthropologies inform what we want from life, and the kinds of love we&#x27;re capable of offering, the kinds we&#x27;re apt to receive.About Brian Kelly:Brian was born in Dublin and now works as an English teacher in Camden. In 2019, he was a finalist in Penguin’s WriteNow competition. In 2021, he received a Masters in Creative Writing from City University. In 2021, he won the Irish Writer&#x27;s Centre &#x27;Novel Fair&#x27; prize. He runs the monthly spoken word night ‘Verbal Discharge’, which publishes its third anthology this spring. He also runs the Insurgent Press, which does tiny runs of strange books and generally tries to cause trouble.About Murph:When a virus makes everyone’s internet history public, Murph finds his joke shop swarmed with customers seeking a disguise to escape the penetrating gaze of facial recognition software. Murph takes on a young assistant to avoid dealing with a public he blames on the death of his wife, but when Alex Marie’s band ‘The Noses’ become overnight idols of a new subculture, the intrusions into Murph’s sealed existence continue. Told in two interleaving narratives, the characters are ultimately forced to choose between forgiveness or shame, between the future or the past.
