CIS seminar series - Shaun Edlin (Dotterel Technologies)

Centre for Intelligent Sensing

(The Zoom link will be provided upon completion of the Eventbrite registration)Title: Audio: the missing sense in robotics Presenter: Shaun Edlin, Dotterel Technologies AbstractRobotics platforms have made huge leaps in progress in the past decade in becoming more mobile, robust and accessible to markets. The development of sensor payloads for these systems have followed suit, giving rise to robots able to see their surroundings or detect environmental conditions such as temperature. However, one sense remains neglected by the field due to the constraints of existing microphone solutions: sound. Overcoming robot and UAV ego-noise challenges with new sound sensors designed for highly adverse acoustic conditions will allow the evolution from remote one-way detection tools into highly versatile and potentially lifesaving platforms capable of two-way verbal communication.BioShaun is CEO and co-founder of Dotterel Technologies. Dotterel are a global leader in enabling audio in high noise environments, developing and commercialising unique noise reduction and microphone array technology. Shaun has over 10 years of experience commercialising deep-IP technology, focused on business development, intellectual property and strategy. Shaun is passionate about solving the hard challenges in audio so that the emerging robotics platforms can fulfil their true potential.Programme10:00 - 10:05: Opening and introduction10:05 - 10:50: Talk by Shaun Edlin 10:50 - 11:00: Q&A and closing remarksHost: Lin Wang, Centre for Intelligent Sensing, Queen Mary University of London
