About this event

* Due to unprecedented demand, we have released a final tranche of 100 tickets today (21/9/22)

The Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) has launched a series of seminars for analysts, which will share insights from our regulatory work, promoting the Code and key areas of focus that support all types of analysis across government.

Each seminar will have presentations from three speakers – one from OSR, setting out our views on the topic in question, one from a government department, and finally, one speaker with an external perspective. Each speaker will present for 8min, with 15min for questions to all the speakers at the end.

Our third seminar will focus on communicating uncertainty in analysis. Describing, quantifying, and visualising uncertainty can be complex and present many challenges for producers of analysis. But ensuring that uncertainty is conveyed well is an important part of ensuring the appropriate use (and avoiding misuse!) of analysis. This seminar will highlight common challenges and examples of good practice, to support analysts improve communication of uncertainty within their outputs.

The line-up for this event will be:

• Helen Miller-Bakewell, OSR

• Mark Pont, OSR

• Sarah Crofts, ONS

• David Spiegelhalter, Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication Centre
