The University Graduate School is dedicated to supporting University of Birmingham’s postgraduate researcher (PGR) community. Fostering cross-college, interdisciplinary communities and acting as a gateway to support and advice. We work closely with the other University support services to ensure our postgraduate researchers have access to a high quality experience.

An online workshop to support your application: what we're looking for, and how to perfect your application

<h2>The University Graduate School supports postgraduates at the University of Birmingham. We offer a variety of academic, social and wellbeing activities throughout the year. </h2><h2>We&#x27;re running events throughout Welcome for postgraduate taught students (PGT) and postgraduate researchers (PGR). This event is for PGTs - look out for our other events in our <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/pgt-welcome-2022-1125339?utm-campaign=social&amp;utm-content=creatorshare&amp;utm-medium=discovery&amp;utm-term=odclsxcollection&amp;utm-source=cp&amp;aff=escb" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">PGT Welcome Collection</a>!</h2><h3>Join us for an online workshop about the application process for our UGS Scholarships (PGT), led by an experienced PGT Careers Advisor. You&#x27;ll also be able to hear from a panel of last year&#x27;s Scholars about their experience in the role.</h3><h3>The UGS recruits ten PGT students each year to act as UGS Scholars (PGT), to support our postgraduate community until the end of August in return for a £1000 scholarship. If you are passionate about delivering postgraduate taught events, building supportive communities and you want to boost your experience base and CV, then you might just have what it takes to be a UGS Scholar! </h3><h3><a href="https://intranet.birmingham.ac.uk/student/graduateschool/pgt/ugsscholarspgt.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">L﻿earn more about the scheme here.</a></h3><p>The event will cover:</p><ul><li>How to identify the &#x27;hiring needs&#x27; of the UGS PGT scholarship;</li><li>How to demonstrate that you meet these needs through your skills and experience;</li><li>How to perfect your CV;</li><li>How to structure and write your personal statement;</li><li>How to use language most effectively and persuasively.</li></ul><p>You&#x27;ll also have the chance to ask any questions you have to our PGT Careers Advisor Anna Flatt, to UGS Community Engagement Officer Elizabeth O&#x27;Connor, who leads the scholarship scheme, and to a small panel of UGS Scholars from last year.</p><h3>Please note: Joining information (Zoom link) will be sent via your confirmation email, and in an Eventbrite email on the day of the event. Please check your junk folder or contact the Graduate School if you do not receive the link before the event. </h3><h3>The event will be recorded for those who can&#x27;t make it - please register as normal to receive the recording via email after the workshop has finished.</h3><p><strong>This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate taught students (PGT)</strong>. </p><p>PGT programmes include: MA, MSc, MBA, MEd, LLM, MPH, Maths SKE, MPA, PG Affiliate, PG Certificate, PG Dip Ed, PG Diploma, and PGCE. </p><p>Registration will close 15 mins before the event start time or when tickets are sold out.
