A Story Through Time: exploring NI's geodiversity

The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) is an office of the Department for the Economy in Belfast staffed by British Geological Survey scientists. GSNI provides data, information, research services, advice and expertise to central and local government to support sustainable economic development of natural resources and to protect the environment.GSNI has collaborated on research with 35 universities worldwide, and has received five industry awards for communications, acquiring minerals data, and use of geographic information systems.

As part of the first ever International Geodiversity Day, join GSNI at their core store to experience NI's story through time.

GSNI Core Store

The core store of the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) is home to tens of kilometres of rock core and chippings as well as thousands of rock, fossil and mineral specimens. Aside from providing a valuable research and education resource, our collection helps to tell us the story through time of Northern Ireland's subsurface.Join GSNI to celebrate the first ever International Geodiversity Day and find out about the vast geological history of Northern Ireland . In a story that tells us about ancient oceans and mountain ranges, tropical swamps and searing hot deserts, and not forgetting volcanic eruptions and icy wastelands, Northern Ireland has seen it all! There will be two tours being delivered: 10.30 - 11.30 and 14.30 - 15.30. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. The GSNI core store can be cold so please make sure you wrap up warm depending on the weather on the day.
