Power up Thematic Analysis with CAQDAS-packages 

Thematic Analysis is a common method for analysing qualitative data which, inspired by the work of Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke* , has become increasingly popular in recent years amongst students working on qualitative dissertations and researchers working across a range of academic disciplines and applied research sectors (e.g. government, policy, charity, market-research etc.). 

This webinar considers how the use of CAQDAS-packages can facilitate the processes of undertaking thematic analysis, focusing on how the techniques involved in doing thematic analysis can be accomplished using the software tools provided by CAQDAS-packages. Reference is made to different thematic analysis approaches, including Reflexive Thematic Analysis (Braun &amp; Clarke, 2021) and illustrations are given from a range of CAQDAS-packages – including ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, MAXQDA, HyperRESEARCH, NVivo, Quirkos, QDA Miner, Taguette, Transana etc. 

The appropriateness of software tools for the analytic tasks undertaken in different approaches to thematic analysis is discussed, and the benefits of using CAQDAS-packages for thematic analysis in comparison to manual methods is considered, framed around the <a href="https://www.qdaservices.co.uk/post/why-bother-with-caqdas-access-at-the-click-of-a-button" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">access these dedicated qualitative data analysis (QDA) tools </a>provide to data, ideas, processes and for others.


*Braun &amp; Clarke have published widely on thematic analysis, including their recent textbook <a href="https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/thematic-analysis/book248481" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Thematic Analysis: A practical Guide </a>(Sage, 2021). 
SpeakerChristina Silver, PhD, FAcSS, SFHEA manages the <a href="https://www.surrey.ac.uk/computer-assisted-qualitative-data-analysis" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CAQDAS Networking Project (CNP)</a>, leading its capacity-building activities. She has trained thousands of students and researchers around the world in the powerful use of CAQDAS-packages over the past 25 years. Her research interests lie in the relationship between analytic methods and technologies and pedagogies for facilitating the appropriate adoption of analytic tools. Christina is co-author with Ann Lewins of <a href="https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/using-software-in-qualitative-research/book238134" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Using software in qualitative research: a step-by-step guide,</a> and developed <a href="https://www.qdaservices.co.uk/five-level-qda" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the Five-Level QDA method</a> with Nick Woolf. She is also the current chair of the REFI-QDA Project.
