How can nostalgia foster creativity? Come along to discover how you can use your nostalgia creatively in your daily life.

This is a one-hour online interactive session focused on the feeling of nostalgia and its potential to foster creativity in everyday life. There is a dangerous misconception that nostalgia is a regressive emotional condition that holds people in the past. Through a brief talk on nostalgia by the filmmaker and academic, creator of the event, along with discussion with participants, there will be a new understanding of nostalgia that will allow everyone to keep looking into their past with confidence and without fear, in ways that enable them to be expressive, connected with their communities, and positive about the future. Come along if you believe you are a nostalgic person – this may be about a place, a person, a period in your life, younger age, etc. All you need to do is to have with you during the session an item that triggers your nostalgia (e.g. a printed photograph, a plant, a shirt, food etc.).<a href="https://www.tasosgiapoutzis.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">T﻿asos Giapoutzis</a> is a filmmaker and lecturer in Film at the University of Essex.

This event is part of the Being Human festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 10–19 November 2022. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
