World Menopause Awareness Day is on 18 October and Sussex University is delighted to be holding its first Menopause Festival. We are committed to ensuring everyone can #ThriveThroughMenopause at Sussex.

Sussex academic Dr Jill Kirby kicks off Sussex’s first Menopause Festival with her talk on ‘Silent Women Sufferers’. She will briefly outline the history of menopause from the creation of the term in the 19th century via the development of hormone treatments in the 1930s to the silence and taboo around the topic that have existed until very recently. She will draw on personal accounts of women in the early 1970s to illustrate the frustrations and challenges that women were experiencing in trying to get support for menopausal symptoms, many of which still resonate today.Peter Mitchell, Interim HR Director will then talk briefly about what support is available at Sussex University for all staff to help everyone #ThriveThroughMenopause. A﻿ link to join the session will be emailed to you a few days before the event. Please register using your Sussex email address and ensure you have access to Zoom.
