This outdoors workshop is developed to help you engage more deeply with nature using your sense of  touch, drawing and writing.

‘Held’ is an enquiry: can bringing our attention to our sense of touch help cultivate intimacy and play with the natural world whilst also exploring plant intelligence? &quot;The land knows you, even when you are lost” Robin Wall Kimmerer. The knowing of plants supports the knowing of ourselves so we will note shifts in our bodies and what stories or images arise as we quietly spend time with our plant companions. There’ll be an opportunity to share your experience and creative output with others during the session if you choose to do so. My intention is for this experience to be both contemplative and playful as you explore connection anew with the plant world, with others, with yourself.And whilst these explorations are developed to support our physiology and inner ecosystems they’re not just for the health and sustenance of humans but for our plant kin too. Encouraging kinship with nature not only gives us a greater sense of belonging and wellbeing but also makes it harder for us to continue to do or to witness harm to the natural world. We will meet outside the cafe in St Anne’s Wells Garden, Hove. Please bring weather appropriate clothing and something to sit on as we will probably be sitting down on the ground for some of the workshop. Also bring a notebook or sketchbook and a pen or pencil. There are also benches around the park if you need to sit down and a cafe if it’s wet weather. I have worked within contemporary art, health and education for over 20 years and produce projects based on how we might experience the world via our senses and am currently studying Somatic Experiencing. I developed a live art piece called ‘Touch Hunger’ in 2021 which was performed in person at Brighton Fringe, online at “Sentient Performativities&quot; at Dartington Hall and at “Tender Hotel&quot; organised by Islington Mill Salford. I have previously created projects around pain, smiles and empathy which included workshops designed to help us connect with each other and with ourselves. I make work to help me make sense of the world, gain more intimacy with it, to feel safe, and then cultivate that sense of safety and curiosity for others.
