Transforming the UK’s construction sector
Sam Stacey will present the insights gained from leading a four-year programme to
transform the UK’s construction sector – by accelerating the uptake of manufacturing
approaches, digital techniques and sustainable building solutions. The talk will focus on the
need for a systems approach to achieving change, where cultural shift is as important as
technical breakthroughs. From the outset, the programme was driven by a conviction that in
the UK, and indeed throughout the world, construction as a system is not really working for
anyone, but that with the right leadership it could be radically improved. It now seems that
that vision is on the way to being realised.

As we increasingly move away from traditional design and construction processes to offsite, 
we face challenges around the supply chain capabilities, the different procurement vehicles, 
and ownership of liability. To solve any of these it is clear, as an industry we need greater 
visibility from all parties involved. That&#x27;s why we launched the MMC Market, a free and 
searchable database of MMC in the UK, which connects developers and clients with MMC 
solutions providers, specialist consultants and turnkey contractors, showcasing the positive
outcomes achieved by high-quality MMC projects. Our goal is to build a vital piece of 
infrastructure for the construction industry. MMC Market aims to increase transparency and 
grow confidence in the sector’s ability to fund, develop and construct successful MMC 
projects. In this presentation, learn all about the MMC Market and how it connects with our 
software platform KOPE to allow for a more productised supply chain, by enabling users to 
quickly configure, test and re-work offsite solutions.
OA Digital Workstream

With the government advocating the adoption of both offsite manufacturing and digital 
technologies, alongside the drive to aggregate project demands, we aim to build confidence 
to invest in research and develop advanced technology within the industry.
Digital technology is not just about BIM and creating digital twins; it is about capturing and 
enhancing the products and processes involved in delivering a built asset. Offsite 
manufacturing is built on optimising processes throughout a project lifecycle, lending itself 
to digital tools that can provide opportunities to improve the way we procure, design, 
deliver and manage built assets.
The aim of the OA digital workstream is to :

• Create awareness of the benefits of digital technologies, by promoting innovative 
champions, which will build confidence in our industry and investors while driving 
innovation further through competition.
• Provide guidance and standards around what data is important, evolving process 
logic and identifying appropriate technology platforms to facilitate all phases of a 
project.
• Provide guidance on delivering a product platform using digital technologies.
• Advise on the interoperability of digital technologies.
• Advise how digital technologies can support BOPAS and HSE.
Buildoffsite New Guidance on Offsite Construction and Design

Buildoffsite has just launched new guidance on offsite construction concept and design. This 
is primarily aimed at clients and those procuring new buildings &amp; infrastructure to be better 
informed on the offsite options available in the sector and to make an initial assessment of 
the optimum use of MMC.
The Buildoffsite guide will support initial concept planning for offsite construction, which 
could then be developed into a scheme design enabling clients to be better informed to 
specify and procure offsite on their projects. This guide will show what is possible when an 
offsite solution is sought and will enable the presumption in favour of offsite construction to 
be fully explored. The guidance will cover:
• Whole life considerations – cost and carbon
• Project planning including site context and concept design, applying offsite systems, 
detailed design, manufacturing and construction, logistics and buildability
• Benefits and risk management considerations
• Guidance on specifying for performance
