You will receive the Zoom link in your order confirmation email.Optical metamaterials (MMs), i.e., composite materials artificially structured on a subwavelength scale, have been the object of intense research in the past few years for the possibility to obtain unconventional functionalities, which are not accessible by the material constituents and can be engineered by properly designing the metamaterial structure. In particular, great interest has recently grown in actively tunable metamaterials whose optical properties can be controlled by external parameters, with applications in nanophotonics, nonlinear optics and quantum optics.Recently, much attention has been gained by a peculiar class of metal-dielectric metamaterials, namely hyperbolic metamaterials . These are anisotropic uniaxial metamaterials, arranged as metal-dielectric stacks or metal nanowires embedded in a dielectric matrix, in which the real part of one of the diagonal components of the effective permittivity tensor changes sign as a function of the wavelength, vanishing at the so-called epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) wavelength. In this talk, Prof Cesca will present a comprehensive study of the third-order nonlinear optical properties (nonlinear refractive index and nonlinear absorption coefficient) of epsilon-near-zero multilayer metamaterials, highlighting the different parameters that can be leveraged to tailor their nonlinear optical response.Tiziana Cesca was born in Venice (Italy) in 1974. In 1998, she obtained the degree in Physics cum laude and in 2003 the PhD in Physics from the University of Padova. Since 2019, she is Associate Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter at the University of Padova and she works at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DFA). Her research activity is mainly experimental and is focused on the investigation of structural and optical properties of nanostructured materials for applications in nanophotonics (in particular plasmonics), nonlinear optics and sensing. Her interests include also the study of structural, electrical and optical properties of impurities introduced in semiconductors and glasses by ion implantation for applications in the field of optoelectronics. She is co-author of 95 publications on international journals with peer review and 1 book chapter. She presented 38 contributions at International Conferences (13 Invited Talks) and 6 seminars at international Institutions. She has been member of the Organizing Committee of 5 International Conferences.
