Drawing Projects UK was created in 2009 to develop and promote research initiatives in drawing, including the Jerwood Drawing Prize project, now known as the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. In 2015,a centre for drawing and contemporary art at Bridge House in Trowbridge, Wiltshire wasestablished and the remit of Drawing Projects UK expanded to form a drawing network and community through a range of complementary activities. With a project space, exhibition space, workspaces for artists, designers, creative and cultural enterprises, bookable meeting rooms and cafe, Drawing Projects UK is a unique creative and cultural hub, and is conveniently located adjacent to Trowbridge railway station.

Please join us for this online Drawing Discussion with Penny McCarthy, Tania Kovats and Anita Taylor - on Monday 3 October at 5pm - held in association with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2022 exhibition and engagement programme.This Drawing Discussion will feature a screening of Cloud Falls in Love with Mortal, a film by Hugo Glendinning about Penny McCarthy and her drawings made as the outcome of the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award, Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019. The film was premiered at the launch of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2022. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Penny McCarthy - Artist and Reader at Sheffield Hallam University; Tania Kovats - Artist and Professor of Drawing &amp; Making at the University of Dundee and Selector of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Working Drawing Award 2022; Anita Taylor - Director of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize and Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art &amp; Design at the University of Dundee - and the audience. Penny McCarthy's solo exhibition, Cloud falls in love with mortal, will be on show at Hastings Contemporary from 8 October 2022 to 23 March 2023, and comprises an extensive series of graphite drawings made between 2019 and 2022. The catalyst for these drawings was a newspaper image from 2016 of a Fata Morgana mirage in the sky above Hastings that looked like a portal to another world. Each drawing in the series is associatively linked to the enigmatic Fata Morgana mirage, in which the sea appears in the sky and the world is turned upside down. Penny McCarthy uses pencil drawing with an exacting slowness that is a kind of reverie or extended contemplation.Prevented by the pandemic from making her planned visits to Hastings, the artist found opening up instead a speculative and metaphorical exploration of myths and narratives associated with the sea and sky. The suite of drawings is very much a reflection of an interior world conjured out of paper, clouds, water, dust, and light, with a material frugality that comes, at least in part, from being made during the turbulent time of the global pandemic.Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2022 received over 3,200 entries from 1,673 artists and drawing practitioners working in 45 countries.The exhibition is open to the public at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London from 29 September to 16 October, open daily from 12noon to 6pm, free entry.#TBWDP22 #DrawingDiscussion
