Computer Science Education Week (11-16 years)

The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) is home to the world's largest collection of working historic computers.Follow the development of computing: from the Turing-Welchman Bombe and Colossus of the 1940s through the large systems and mainframes of the 1950s, 60s and 70s, to the rise of personal computing and the rise of mobile computing and the internet.Recognised as one of England’s top 100 ‘irreplaceable places’, we welcome corporate and group visits, schools and individuals from all over the world.We are normally open Tuesday to Friday 10:30 -17:00, Saturday & Sunday 10:30 – 17:00. About the Museum: At The National Museum of Computing, voted one of England&#x27;s &#x27;Top 100 Irreplaceable Places&#x27;, the evolution of Computing will unfold before your eyes. Journey from the early electro-mechanical code-breaking machines of WWII and the world&#x27;s first entirely digital semi-programmable computer, discovering how technology evolved from valves and early semiconductors to the modern microprocessors we use today. You will uncover the development of large mainframes, supercomputers and scientific mini-computers, responsible for process control from office-based systems to airspace! Finish by exploring the rise of personal computing, mobile computing and the advent of the internet and smart devices, bringing you up-to-date by examining how this technology has revolutionised the way we now interact with machines and each other. We look forward to welcoming you!About This Event: Programme:Code Name: Cipher - The year is 1940 and you have been invited to Bletchley Park to assist in the war effort. Explore the museum and learn more about Encryption to end WWII in this immersive experience.<a href="https://www.cyberchampions.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cyber Champions</a> - Cyber safety messages are not a routine part of school curriculums, so it is vital that school pupils are upskilled. The Cyber Champions workshops teach children that the internet offers fantastic opportunities, but in order to benefit fully from these opportunities, all need to be digitally savvy.SEROCU - This interactive session aims to educate children about computer use and the Computer Misuse Act, as a worrying number of young people are heading down a risky path into the world of cybercrime. Participants are engaged in a scenario as trainees on a Police unit fighting cybercrime, deciding whether particular online activities were legal or illegal. Once the criminals have been apprehended, students are given an overview of the skills needed for a career in Cyber Security and the numerous available job roles for those who make the right Cyber Choices.Provention - Frankie Gallop and Cyber SecurityKey messages include: app safety, sexting, positive digital footprints in relation to employment, mis/disinformation, Libel/ Slander, Wi-Fi hotspots, secure websites, Internet of Things Devices, Multi-Factor Authentication and social engineering e.g. phishing.VR Experience - Step into another world with our Oculus Headsets; build communication skills by collaboratively solving fast-paced problems requiring abstraction, decomposition and computational thinking.Robotics and AI - Students explore the history of robotics from science fiction to reality. Discuss the meaning of AI, the Turing Test and increasingly convincing chatbots. The capacity for this event is 120 students.</li><li>The content of this event (11-16 years) is targeted towards students aged between 11-16 years (Secondary School Years 7 - 11). </li><li>Whilst this event is free, schools must give 2 months notice if they will not be attending; this will enable their places to be offered to another school on the Waiting List. Failure to do so will incur a charge of £160.00.</li></ul>
