Focus on Digital : an introduction to working with born-digital photographic collections

The National Library of Ireland is delighted to offer an in-person workshop to mark World Digital Preservation Day, the theme of which this year is ’Data for all, for good, forever’. The workshop will guide attendees through the process to aid appraisal, selection, and describing born-digital photographs. Working with born-digital materials can be a daunting process, so this workshop is aimed at harnessing the existing skills of Gallery, Library, Archive, Museum (GLAM) professionals while also using open source tools such as ExifTool to extract and use metadata. The NLI has worked on born-digital photograph collections, so in the spirit of the WDPD theme, we wish to share some of what we’ve learned. There will be a mixture of presentations and hands-on workshops using a test born-digital collection. This in-person introductory workshop is aimed at GLAM professionals who have born-digital content, such as photographs, and want to take some practical next steps.
