Somerset County Council are working with Harmless to offer free  online training support via Zoom for frontline practitioners

Are you concerned a child or young person you are supporting is at risk of self harm?Harmless is a user informed self harm and suicide prevention service that offers an all-ages support service. Our aim is to promote hope and recovery for those in distress, their families, friends and colleagues. It is grounded on the ethos that with the right support life can and does get better. Somerset County Council is working with Harmless to offer a fully funded 4 hour course to frontline practitioners who work with Children and Young people who self harm.This evidence-based, CPD-accredited course is designed to improve working practice, knowledge and skills by exploring the key issues associated with self harm and suicidality in young people, looking at national and local policy, best practice, guidance, and brief interventions for working with young people at risk of self harm and suicide, improving skills to identify and assess for risk, and identifying ways to reduce stigma and discrimination.The course uses a variety of interactive tools to build delegates&#x27; confidence in responding to children and young people who harm themselves, by understanding the influences and impact on the health, recovery and wellbeing of those who self harm and may be at risk of suicide.Learning Outcomes•	Improve contextual knowledge of self harm•	Understand national policy, best practice and guidance to support someone who self harms•	Identify the risk factors that can lead someone to self harm•	Recognise the stigma surrounding self harm and impact this can have•	Understand the wider impact self harm has on friends and family•	Raise confidence in responding to, and supporting, someone who self harms•	Develop evidence-based strategies and brief interventions to help someone who self harms•	Identify a range of local and national services and information on self harm•	Understand the importance of recoveryOnce registered, you will receive an email of confirmation. Access details for the session will be sent a week before the training date.We will provide all delegates with frequent breaks during the session to ensure that screen fatigue is kept to a minimum.

Self-CareThe topics raised in the training delivery can be emotionally evocative. It is strongly advised that delegates should be aware of the personal impact that training in self harm awareness can have and should seek the appropriate reassurance, support and guidance from the Trainer delivering the session if they become distressed or affected by any of the topics raised. As an organisation, we encourage that all delegates practice self-care during their time on the course, ensuring they take adequate breaks and manage their own self-disclosure. All trainers have direct contact with a clinical team should needs arise to implement additional support.CancellationsIf the delegate/organisation cancels a training place:<ul><li>All cancellations must be confirmed via email to training@harmless.org.uk at the earliest opportunity</li><li>If a delegate is unable to attend the training, Harmless will allow a replacement to take their place if we are notified about any changes at least 48 hours before the training is due to take place. Replacement delegates will be required to complete a separate training registration form before we can accept them on the course</li><li>If Harmless is forced to cancel the training due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances:</li><li>Harmless will endeavour to cancel the training, if necessary, at the earliest opportunity</li><li>Harmless cannot accept responsibility for any losses incurred by late cancellation</li></ul>Data ProtectionAt Harmless CIC, we’re committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.
