Unsure as to how to support your child's reading and spelling? Strategies given to help your child learn both of these skills

<p>Parents (and Teachers) can often be perplexed by children who are finding reading and spelling difficult and by how best to help them. This workshop covers reading and spelling techniques including visual and motor memory; syllables; word families and analogies; root words and prefixes and suffixes (morphology). Often these skills are interlinked and once decoding (reading) is improved then encoding (spelling) is improved too. For some children they are reading at one level but spelling at another in that words that they can read certain words but not spell them. It is possible to teach children to read at one level but to spell at a lower level. For example they may be learning to read words such as stern or dirty skirt but be learning to spell words such as sick, bell or bike. Children must develop a love of literature and sometimes the frustration of not being able to spell impacts on their development of reading. Parents are given strategies to support to children with both aspects.</p>
