IPPO Cities and the Future of the City Centres Network present a collaborative event to discuss the future of the city centre.

The city centre plays a fundamental and dynamic role in making the city a vibrant and liveable place but globally it is under immense and sustained pressures. Positively, it is the site of exchange not only of goods and services but also information and ideas, a place where work interacts with leisure and play, and where people’s lives intersect. It is literally the beating heart of the city. But changing patterns of commerce, retailing and residential living, and the need to contribute to responses to climate change is challenging its future character.T﻿his collaborative event will help launch the Future of the City Centres Network book, and will feature contributions from:<ul><li>Jonathan Wallace, Board Director at planning and development consultancy Lichfields</li></ul><ul><li> Yingyin Wu, Policy Analyst in the Regional Development and Multi-level Governance Division of the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities</li></ul><ul><li>Tom van Vuren, Regional Director for UK and Europe at Veitch Lister Consulting, a multi-disciplinary company specialising in transport planning, analytics and modelling, policy and economics, and Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds</li></ul><ul><li>Sandra Guinand, Associate Professor at ESPI Bordeaux and Associate Researcher at Pantheon-Sorbonne University Paris</li></ul>The event will be chaired by IPPO Cities, with discussants Prof Bob Giddings and Dr Robert Rogerson of the Future of City Centres Network.
