The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) is home to the world's largest collection of working historic computers.Follow the development of computing: from the Turing-Welchman Bombe and Colossus of the 1940s through the large systems and mainframes of the 1950s, 60s and 70s, to the rise of personal computing and the rise of mobile computing and the internet.Recognised as one of England’s top 100 ‘irreplaceable places’, we welcome corporate and group visits, schools and individuals from all over the world.We are normally open Tuesday to Friday 10:30 -17:00, Saturday & Sunday 10:30 – 17:00. Please check tickets for actual opening days and times.TNMOC operates independently of Bletchley Park Trust, although we are located on the Bletchley Park Estate.To visit us, go through the main Bletchley Park entrance, through the barrier, walk or drive bearing left beyond the main car parks, to our separate entrance located at the top of the Park.Visit their website here for more information.https://www.tnmoc.org/Sat Nav users: please use the postcode for the railway station MK3 6DS on Sherwood Drive and then follow signs. About the Museum: At The National Museum of Computing, voted one of England&#x27;s &#x27;Top 100 Irreplaceable Places&#x27;, the evolution of Computing will unfold before your eyes. Journey from the early electro-mechanical code breaking machines of WWII and the world&#x27;s first entirely digital semi-programmable computer, discovering how technology evolved from valves and early semiconductors to the modern microprocessors we use today. You will uncover the development of large mainframes, supercomputers and scientific mini-computers, responsible for process control from office-based systems to airspace! Finish by exploring the rise of personal computing, mobile computing and the advent of the internet and smart devices, bringing you up-to-date by examining how this technology has revolutionised the way we now interact with machines and each other. Home to the world&#x27;s largest collection of working historic computers, our fantastic team of friendly and knowledgeable volunteers are on hand to demonstrate the plethora of operational machines in our unrivalled collection. We look forward to welcoming you!About This Event: M﻿arch 14th, or 3.14, is widely recognised as Pi day for obvious reasons. Here at The National Museum of Computing we are using this fantastic opportunity to celebrate the rich history of mathematical computing with a nod to the pioneering work of Raspberry Pi.Programme:Number Crunchers - Explore our collection of mathematical instruments in this session. Using mechanical calculators, such as the Kurta, and building an understanding of multiplicative processes through application to real life computing instruments.Turing Tumble - Maths is the language of machines, as evidenced by our marble-powered binary calculators. Make binary arithmetic visible covering everything from denary/binary conversion and overflow errors to sign bits and two&#x27;s complement. Primes &amp; Encryption - This Maths-based session provides real-life applications for mathematical concepts (including; lowest common multiple, standard form and calculating with exponents) in WW2 and present-day encryption methods.Nuclear Computing - The term &#x27;computer&#x27; originally refered to a job role for carrying out calculations or computations. The rise of nuclear power provoked a need for more complex mathematical instruments, returning back to basics we use slide rules and log tables to calculate half lifes of nuclear materials.P﻿i Workshop - we will be welcoming a representative from Raspberry Pi to run a workshop. More details to come...Microcontroller Trail - In glorious marriage of old and new technology, explore which of our historic machines now work with the help of Raspberry Pis and Arduinos.
