Powerful stories demand a longer read. A new training session for long-form features.

This session is for academics who have either written for The Conversation or who have already done a general training session and have a clear idea for a long read based on their current research. We will explain the art of writing long-form features, how to keep readers engaged, and what it takes to turn your research into a compelling long read that makes a bigger impact.The Conversation’s Insights section specialises in features of up to 4,000 words. The key things we are looking for are:<ul><li>Yet-to-be-published investigative research with news lines that are of strong public interest.</li><li>Human stories with compelling narrative arcs and case studies that grab readers’ attention.</li><li>The ‘inside story’ of a researcher’s journey, including personal ups-and-downs.</li></ul>In this training session, we will focus on the core elements of successful long-form feature writing, including:<ul><li>How to pitch, plan and structure your outline.</li><li>Building a compelling narrative.</li><li>Using first-person accounts to make your story come alive.</li><li>How to co-write long reads with other authors more effectively.</li></ul>You will also have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and receive feedback from The Conversation’s Insights editors.
