Established in 1974, Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust (DHBT) has been responsible for the rescue of many historic buildings throughout Derbyshire.  Using their skills and knowledge, members of the Trust identify neglected and abandoned historic buildings and then work to bring them back into new sustainable use.The Trust is a non-profit registered charity that is committed to the heritage of Derbyshire, working with its own in-house professionals to provide help and advice to groups and individuals sharing a passion for historic buildings.

WIngfield Station

In December 2019, Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust (DHBT) took ownership of the Grade II* Wingfield Station buildings and site from Amber Valley Borough Council (having themselves acquired the station by way of a Compulsory Purchase Order).The Station is set be restored back to its 1840 status to signify its significance as being one of the few surviving original stations from the pioneer era of railways, and the only surviving original station designed by Francis Thompson for Stephenson&#x27;s North Midland Railway between Derby and Leeds.During 2021/22, thanks primarily to funding from Historic England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Architectural Heritage Fund and The Pilgrim Trust, urgent repair works were underaken. This outstanding building work was completed by ASBC Heritage and Conservation Specialists in June 2022. The work included all tasks that affected the Network Rail infrastucture, including the roof/chimney repairs and works to the trackside elevations.Following a further grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in May 2022, and subject to continued fundraising from the DHBT, the next phase of works are due to start in early 2023. This will cover masonry works to the non-trackside elevations, repairs to windows and doors, works to the internal floors, walls and ceilings, internal decoration and joinery, supplying fixtures and fittings,installing new statutory services and external works.This is your chance to see the progress made to date and to learn more about the history of the site and the plans for the next 18 months.Please come suitably dressed for a muddy site with an uneven floor surface. Parking can be accomodated on site, but please park sensibly to ensure everyone can get a space.Location: the station is located off Holme Lane (Holm Lane DE55 7LJ). If you&#x27;re coming from the A38 towards South Wingfield, you need to turn right down the track just before the old railway bridge (we will have a sign out). If you reach the church, you&#x27;ve missed the turning and will need to turn around!
