Tree planting opportunity at the new University of Leeds Gair Wood

The University of Leeds is undertaking one of the most significant woodland creation projects in the north of England. Gair Wood will contribute to the White Rose Forest initiative which aims to plant seven million trees in West and North Yorkshire by 2025, increasing the region&#x27;s canopy coverage from 11 to 19% by 2050.V﻿olunteers are invited to get involved with the tree planting during a series of two-hour sessions, some of which are in the morning and others in the afternoon. If you intend to stay all day, please ensure that you sign up for both the morning and afternoon sessions. T﻿he meeting point for the sessions will be Golden Acre Park. Further details of this will be sent out nearer the time. Volunteers will need to meet 15 minutes before the start of the session to be accompanied to the planting site by a member of University of Leeds staff.There will be an introduction about the project from a representative of UBoC and guidance will be given about how to plant and record the location of the required trees. All necessary equipment will be provided and a full risk assessment has been carried out.All of t﻿he equipment needed for planting will be provided, but please ensure that you are dressed appropriately for the weather and boggy conditions. There are toilets onsite, but no facilities for making drinks etc. Please ensure that you bring drinks and snacks with you.P﻿lease note, there is no parking at the Gair Wood site and volunteers are strongly advised to use public transport to attend the planting session.
