/﻿// What is Wing Chun? ///Popularised in recent years with the popular movie franchise &quot;Ip Man&quot; or Wong Kar Wai&#x27;s &quot;The Grandmaster&quot;, Wing Chun (詠春拳) is a traditional Chinese martial art from southern China designed to use simple, direct movements to overcome larger, stronger opponents.Utilising the laws of physics, we do not rely on pure speed and brute strength, but rather develop our position, sensitivity and timing. We believe in building a strong foundation in practice and precision in execution. Proper training develops calm confidence and a healthy mind and body. We place a strong emphasis on accurate position, structure and relaxation to generate the proper energy for application./﻿// What is the structure of the workshop? ///W﻿e will cover:<ol><li>P﻿rinciples and strategies of Wing Chun</li><li>S﻿olo exercises to develop self-awareness, effective movement, and postural efficiency</li><li>P﻿artner exercises to develop spacial awareness, timing, and sensitivity</li></ol>T﻿his session is open to participants of all levels, abilities, genders.P﻿articipants will have actionable concepts and practical methods to take home.

/﻿// Who is David Davila? ///We practice the Wing Chun of Yip Man (葉問) as taught by Leung Sheung (梁相) to Kenneth Chung (鐘萬年), and in turn to David Davila.Leung Sheung was the senior-most student of Yip Man in Hong Kong. Leung Sheung was widely acknowledged for his superior skill and practical application.Kenneth Chung began his Wing Chun studies in Hong Kong in 1965 and is considered Leung Sheung's most outstanding student. Ken was a pioneer of Wing Chun in the United States and is well known for his 'soft force'. His teaching emphasizes a relaxed yet rooted structure, precise position and acute sensitivity.D﻿avid is Ken's direct student and founded the Shanghai Leung Sheung Wing Chun Student Association (<a href="http://www.shanghai-wingchun.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://www.shanghai-wingchun.com/</a>). He is regularly invited to run in the US, France, Greece, China, Malaysia, Singapore...This time, David is invited by the student group based in London (<a href="https://london-wingchun.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://london-wingchun.com/</a>).

﻿/// What is the schedule? ///Saturday (at the studio):13h50 - Meet in front of the studio14h00 - Workshop with David starts- 5-hr session with short breaks -19h00 - Workshop endsSunday (in Haggerston Park):10h00 - Training session starts- 3-hr peer-led session (with advanced practioners) - 13h00 - Lunch nearby﻿/// What much does it cost? ///This workshop is organised by volunteering practitioners.The standard contribution is 40 GBP per person. It depends on the final number of participants, but we forecast that this allows us to cover essential costs and organise this session in good conditions. For those that wish to attend an optional Sunday peer-led session, we suggest a contribution of 50 GBP per person. Held outside in Haggerston Park, it won't be led by David but it's a great opportunity to go over the learnings from the day before with advanced students. Contributions aim to cover the cost of the studio hire and all other costs associated with the organisation. However, if you feel this might prevent you from joining, please just contact us directly as we'd like for everyone to be able to join us to practice. /﻿// What else should I know? ///<ul><li>The workshop will be hosted at Waking Dream Studio, a bright, clean, and accessible studio just off Broadway Market, in East London (6A-B Ada St, London E8 4QU)</li><li>P﻿lease plan to arrive 10 minutes before the start, so we can start on time and make the most of the session</li><li>Wing Chun is a martial art, however we do not expect any "sparring" or free-form contact exercises in this introductory workshop</li><li>N﻿o special equipment is needed, t-shirt/clothes you can easily move in.
