An all day workshop in still life at the Poetry Pharmacy, facilitated by renowned artist Clae Eastgate

T﻿his event is part of the Bishop's Castle Arts FestivalLooking at the Everyday...Creating still life can be a fascinating insight into our responses to the everyday objects we use, look at, love or dislike and sometimes discover. They become the things which define us, a diary that, in its own way, becomes the story of our life. In this session, we will be drawing and painting from observation and/or towards imagination. In response to the ordinary (and not so ordinary) we will develop broader and deeper ways of looking and seeing.We approach still life sessions with a sense of play. A place where we can experiment freely without pressure or expectation, with enjoyment and fun. The workshop will include the fundamentals of drawing (e.g. angles, perspective and tonal work) through fun exercises to a more considered approaches. We will explore colour; how to use it, mix it, develop a personal palette and how to apply, making the marks we desire to express our observations.Who is it for?This class is especially for beginners wishing to begin this rewarding journey of creativity, as well as those with experience who wish to improve their practice.Clae Eastgate is a British portrait artist who has created projects and commissions for private clients, collectors and institutions. Noted subjects are the former Poet Laureate, Dame Carol Ann Duffy, former Scots Makar, Jackie Kay, former National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke; poet, novelist and playwright, Kae Tempest, and the renowned ethologist, Dame Jane Goodall. Clae is currently working on a collection of portraits celebrating the lives and work of some of the UK’s finest contemporary poets, with two paintings from the collection recently acquired by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery for their permanent collection. Clae also teaches portraiture both privately and at the Art Academy London. A﻿ll materials are included in the ticket price. Beginners very welcome! P﻿lease note that due to the historic nature of the building, there is a flight of stairs up to the Distillery workshop space.
