This February BPS celebrates LGBTQIA+ History month with a series of performances, talks and live art events.

Bermondsey Project Space is a not-for-profit creative platform that runs a vibrant programme of performance events including, music, spoken word, performance art, screenings and theatre.

PERFORMANCE WEEK

From the 6th - 11th of February Bermondsey Project Space celebrates performance, with a packed programme of live art, theatre, music and spoken word in aid of the BPS outreach fund - supporting creative projects with local young people.

For this LGBTQIA+ History Month, Bermondsey Project Space partners with Hysterical to bring you an evening of socialising, performance and talks. Hysterical, founded by @beeillustrates + @cheerupluv is a platform for centring women and people of marginalised genders whose work is focussed on community, activism and uplifting the voices of thoes around them. This event at Bermondsey Project Space is a fundraiser for Hysterical's 2023 charitable exhibition and projects. The evening will consist of a mixer, performances, and an opportunity to make connections with fellow creatives, as well as a chance to chat with the 2022 Hysterical alumni and Hysterical 2023 artists! There will be a Q+A session with @beeillustrates and @elizahatch, founder of @cheerupluv, as well as performances by some amazing queer creatives including poetry from Monika Radojevic and music from @Zha_band There will also be a variety of artworks, crafts and merchandise for sale by @beeillustrates and @cheerupluv Guest will recieve a free goody bag! Bee (aka @beeIllustrates) is a queer nonbinary illustrator, interdisciplinary creative and curator based in London. They create distinctive, quirky illustrations, often paired with short essays to educate, empower and inform on many important topics. Primarily focusing on mental health, Queerness, Feminism and current affairs, Bee's aim is to make complex theories and difficult subjects accessible and palatable for the modern millennial and Gen-Z audience. Bee graduated from The University of Edinburgh with a First Class Ba (Hons) in Illustration, having also completed courses in Queer Studies and Social Anthropology. Bee has recently been Longlisted for the World Illustration Awards, for their piece Lovers. Selected clients include Meta, Stonewall, Microsoft, Refinery29, Spotify, Schuh, Vans and more.

Eliza Hatch (aka @cheerupluv) is a 28-year-old British photographer, activist, curator and host of The Cheer Up Luv Podcast. In 2017 Eliza founded Cheer Up Luv, a photo series dedicated to retelling accounts of street harassment. Eliza's work has branched into workshops, exhibitions, and lectures and has led to working with global organisations, such as The United Nations, Apple and TEDx. The series has been featured by The BBC, The Guardian, i-D, and Dazed to name a few, and in 2019 won the Webby for Best Individual Editorial Feature with 'Don't Look Away', a joint campaign with the UNFPA. Eliza has been invited to speak at Nicer Tuesdays, Today At Apple, TEDx, The University of Cambridge, Kings College, Forbes Ignite, Girl Rising, UN Women and many more.

Live Music From Zha:zha is an alternative indie pop artist based in SE London. zha has been described as a unique mix between Mitski and Solange, often singing songs about life experiences as a queer disabled POC. Their songs are rich with beautiful harmonies and melodies that give you “crying in the middle of the dance floor” vibes.

Poetry From Monika Radojevic Monika Radojevic , is a Brazilian-Montenegrin poet, award winning writer and women's rights campaigner. In 2019, she became the inaugural winner of the Merky Books New Writers' prize for her poetry, and her debut collection, teeth in the back of my neck was published in 2021 with Penguin Random House.
