Reserach4Gloucestershire is hosting a workshop to support elevating public involvement in research.

In March 2023 Research4Gloucestershire will be hosting the first Gloucestershire Festival of Health and Social Care Research. This month long event will see a range of digital and in person research workshops, seminars, and panel discussions; focusing on the themes of Digital Transformation, Research for Public and Patient Benefit, Mental Health, and Workforce. T﻿his event will host a number of presentations and workshops relating to public and patient engagement in researchBecky Parish, Associate Director, Engagement and Experience; and Caroline Smith, Senior Manager in Engagement &amp; Inclusion at NHS Gloucestershire will run a workshop on developing an Insight Hub for Gloucestershire.This event will cover developing an Insight Hub in GloucestershireInsight, in this context, includes all of the data gathered about people and communities experience and what matters to them about their wellbeing and local health and care services and support. We want to develop an online Gloucestershire insight hub as a repository for all insight data gathered locally by ICS partners and voluntary and community sector colleagues. The HUB will include items such as: Research papers, Output of Engagement and Consultation Reports, Reports from Healthwatch Gloucestershire and other Voluntary and Community Sector organisations, records of patient stories and summaries of survey responses. It will also include some national survey data that is relevant for Gloucestershire. Insight will be added to the ‘library’ on a regular basis.Creating this resource will mean that we can check what we have heard before we come to talk to you again; that means we can also check what we have done with what you have told us before and ensure we feedback to you our actions. Over the next year we will start to build up this ‘library’ of local information about what matters to local people and communities and what you want us to hear. All staff and partners will be able to register to view the information and use it to assist them in developing and evaluating local services.Agenda:Presentation of a model developed in Derbyshire followed by a Panel discussion and Q&amp;A. Panel to make observations about the Derbyshire model and how it could be adapted to suit Gloucestershire. Q&amp;A to identify considerations to be taken into account in developing a local insight hub.F﻿ollowing the workshop will be a number of research presentations from:Katherine Broomfield -Senior Research Associate at North Bristol NHS Trust: Unspoken Voices: Delivering person-centred care through co-designed patient-reported outcome measures Katherine, a speech and language therapist and researcher, will present the results of her NIHR-funded doctoral research project. Her research, the Unspoken Voices project, was concerned with people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) because they cannot speak clearly. The aim of the Unspoken Voices project was to understand more about the experiences of people who communicate using AAC and to use this information to develop a patient-reported outcome measure. Katherine worked collaboratively with a public involvement group and her multi-professional supervisory team. They shaped and evolved the project so that they were able to engage authentically with people who use AAC and their communication partners to add depth to existing understanding about what are important outcomes from AAC. This resulted in the development of the content for a PROM, and a method for implementing PROMs, that can help to reshape clinical interactions towards greater person-centredness. Dr Carmel McGrath, Research Fellow in Public Involvement &amp; Dr Mari- Rose Kennedy Research Associate in Public Involvement and Qualitative Research will be presenting on the Health Research Ambassador project. This initiative aims to create leadership roles within underserved communities to tackle health inequalities. Their presentation will outline the approaches used to develop the Health Research Ambassador role, workshops completed as part of this project as well as the successes, key learnings and plans for next steps.T﻿his will be followed by a workshop for attendees focusing on how we can collaborate across Gloucestershire to better co produce a community multiagency approach to elevate public and patient involvement in research to improve the health and wellbeing for people in Gloucestershire.T﻿his event is targeted towards Health and Care Professionals from all disciplines, the public and students in a Health and Social Care subject.T﻿his event can be accessed in person or via MS teamsif you would like to attend in person, the event will be held at University of Gloucestershire, Room BG224, School of Business &amp; Technology, Oxstalls Campus, University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Lane, Longlevens, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, GL2 9HWI﻿f you would like to attend via MS Teams this can be accessed using the eventbrite event page.
