Research4Gloucestershire is hosting a research workshop focused on Screening for Vascular Aneurysms

In March 2023 Research4Gloucestershire will be hosting the first Gloucestershire Festival of Health and Social Care Research. This month long event will see a range of digital and in person research workshops, seminars, and panel discussions; focusing on the themes of Digital Transformation, Research for Public and Patient Benefit, Mental Health, and Workforce.Gloucestershire has led the way in developing screening programs for abdominal aortic aneurysms and diabetic retinopathy, thereby saving lives and preventing major disability. Gloucestershire nurses, doctors and research staff have also made significant contributions to ground-breaking clinical trials, which have changed clinical practice worldwide and saved many millions of lives.In this interactive session, researchers from Gloucestershire and Oxford will discuss their work and explore the future direction of clinical research. Topics covered will include: AAA and breast cancer screening; a randomized trial of a wearable patch to detect atrial fibrillation; another trial to prevent diabetic retinopathy using a cheap and widely available drug; trials (designed and run locally) that have revolutionised leg ulcer care; and finally, a look back at 5 large trials which randomized over 100,000 patients to statins and other lipid-modifying drugs, with Gloucestershire making a leading contribution!Mr Richard Bulbulia - Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Oxford Population Health, University of Oxford: Screening for AAA: A Gloucestershire Success Story
