Lee Jerome and Hugh Starkey invite you to celebrate the paperback release of their recent book exploring children’s rights education. Please join us for a presentation of the book by the authors, followed by reflections by two major figures in children’s rights education. We have built in time for questions and contributions from the floor. There will be a chance to engage with colleagues, share a drink and some nibbles. Part of Frances’ role in UNICEF UK is to implement the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) leading a team of fourteen and working with nearly 5000 schools. The RRSA consists of a capacity building, accreditation and assessment framework and process for schools and education settings. The Award works with schools and local authorities to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Frances’ previous posts include Programme Director for Ethnic Minority Achievement in the National Strategies Programme, local authority mathematics advisor, and secondary school senior leader and mathematics teacher. Frances has a masters in Equity and Achievement from the Institute of Education, London.Lee Jerome is an Associate Professor of Education at Middlesex University. His recent research has focused on children’s rights (he’s an enthusiastic advocate), character education (he’s sceptical), and the Prevent Duty in education (he’s concerned). He is working on a large-scale research project with the Association for Citizenship Teaching, exploring the impacts of citizenship education for children. He is a member of the editorial board for teachers’ journal Teaching Citizenship and editor of the academic journal Education, Citizenship and Social Justice. Audrey Osler is a writer and academic. Since 2011 she has been employed as Professor of Education at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN). Audrey is Professor Emerita of Citizenship and Human Rights Education at the University of Leeds, UK and founding Editor-in-Chief of Human Rights Education Review, a peer-reviewed, online open access scholarly journal. She is widely-published, with her most recent academic book being Human Rights and Schooling: An ethical framework for teaching for social justice (Teachers College Press, New York 2016). Hugh Starkey is Professor of Citizenship and Human Rights Education at IOE, UCL&#x27;s Faculty of Education and Society, London. His research focuses on education for democratic citizenship, human rights and social justice in a globalising world.
