Sleep and Dementia: find out the relationship between aging brain and sleep and  explore the link between sleep and dementia

V﻿enue: Lecture Theatre A, Arts School, New Museum SiteSleep, as an ancient demeanour taking up one-third of our life, is not a uniform state of our brain, unlike wake. It consists of a multitude of stages, each with unique brain activity patterns, evolved to optimize adaptation to complex learning tasks while being central to our health. Nonetheless, sleep gradually deteriorates with age, becoming more fragmented and less restorative. In this talk, researchers will attempt to explain how ageing affect sleep and explore whether age-dependent cognitive and health deterioration could be driven by the gradual sleep disruptions we experience over the years. They will also share what is known about the link between sleep and neurodegenerative diseases and discuss new cutting-edge sleep therapies.
