Handbuilding Ceramics - Four Week Course March!

Merseyway Workshop

A short run of semi self directed ceramics evenings, running every Wednesday 1﻿8:00 - 20:00 for four weeks!The ticket cost will cover you for all four sessions, inclusive of all materials and firings. During the first session you will delve into the traditional ceramic techniques of hand building, a quick course around all the necessary tools and materials - with an array of tips and tricks to get you making as soon as possible! The following three sessions will be semi self directed, however a technician will be available for any advice or assistance required. I﻿n the final session you will have the opportunity to add any finishing touches to your collection and add a glaze of your choice. Once fired your work will be ready for collection and put to use!T﻿he sessions will be on the following Wednesdays; 8th March, 15th March, 22nd March and 29th March.

The perfect opportunity to hone your clay skills, pick up an old hobby, or simply crack on with something you've been meaning to make for ages!A hands-on experience, working within a group of like-minded people, and getting a good feel for the facilities and atmosphere of the studio. Why not make a set of mugs, a few plates, a range of tiles or a couple of earrings - anything goes!

Knowledge Required• Beginner - all levels welcome however these sessions are geared towards those that have some or little experience working with clay or have previously attended a course. * This workshop is for ages 16+ only.Techniques You Will ExplorePinch pots - a delicate and intricate method to create a range of forms.Coiling - using this ancient method of building you will learn to make winding and circular form.Press Moulds - experiment with press moulds using surface patterns and designs.Materials Provided• Included in the course fee you will be allocated 5kg of terracotta, buff or crank clay. You will also have free access to our decorative slips and range of glazes! More clay can be purchased during the sessions.What to bring• Relaxed clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy. Bring your own apron if you have one. Transport• We are within a short walk from Stockport train and bus station. Parking is available at the Merseyway Shopping Centre NCP.Refunds and Booking Terms• Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date.
